Etching/Rolling Process

A piece of brass sheet is cut a bit larger than actual design area. etching.jpg (10662 bytes)This piece of metal is then spray painted twice and set to dry. After it is completely dry, the design is scratched out to expose the bare metal. The top of the plate is then immersed upside down in an acid bath. This takes approximately 3 hours to finish. What is left is a negative of the image. The brass plate is then rolled through a rolling mill with sterling silver sheet. The image that was etched will come out indented/raised in the silver. In the final steps the images are fabricated into a piece of original jewelry.
